When does this whining phase end?!?! Dear lord I am frazzled from it. I know Dave is too.
Tonight was night #2 of "I'll eat anything and everything at daycare but won't eat at home". Cori screams and cries (and quickly works herself up into hysterics) when we put her in her highchair and / or try to feed her lately.
She is also extra clingy in the evenings when we're home, and she just doesn't seem to be her usual happy, smiling self. At daycare, she is happy and playful and sweet. No signs of her being sick, and she is sleeping well.
I'm at a loss. Please tell me this whining and crying and tantrums (did I mention the tantrums when we tell her "no"??)... make it stop!
PS - I should also add that we ovbiously love Cori very much, and this isn't meant to indicate otherwise. But I feel cheated somewhat - everyone talks about how much fun it becomes when they turn one, and this isn't fun. I think we felt like we just got the hang of things at 11 months, and then BOOM this hits us and we feel inept.

Happy Father's Day!
So it's back to work tomorrow from my week off. But my new mantra is "8 work days" since I only have 8 more work days until I'm off for 2 and 1/2 weeks in July!
Some highlights of my week off this time:
- fun playdate with friends for me and for Cori
- gardening finished and flowers blooming
- fun trip to zoo
- got mildly electrocuted 2x trying to rewire / fix the laundry room light
- relaxed and vegged
- exercised
- multiple and various doctor visits completed
- lots of family time enjoyed

Amazing Zoo Trip
Today we went to the Pittsburgh Zoo for an early Father's Day with Cori, Dave, and Pop-Pop (Dave's Dad). We had such a great time! The weather was wonderful - not too hot, a good breeze and overcast to keep the sun at bay. We went as soon as the zoo opened and the animals were all up and about (except for the bears who slept all day - early hibernation?)

It was amazing to see the animals up so close - the tigers came right up to the glass much to our amazement! They were pacing back and forth, stalking almost! The teeth on them are huge, as well as their paws. Dave said he somewhat panicked, even though he knew the glass was between them!
The lions were active, and the male lion roared for a good long time. Wow is that incredible to hear live; I can only imagine how scary it would be to hear that "in the wild". Did you know a lion's roar can travel up to 5 miles away? We continued to hear the roar all day throughout the zoo. We were close enough (and thanks to our awesome SLR camera) to see the battle scars on the male lion.

We even saw the polar bears in their new exhibit. Talk about a close encounter!! This bear swam right up to us and in my opinion, the TV doesn't show how incredibly large these creatures are! We saw one swim above us when we were in the tunnel as well, and that huge bear just looked effortless swimming in the water. I didn't get any pictures in the tunnel due to the glare but I was a little too awed to really look away from them and through the lens.

Cori took a brief hour nap which allowed us to spend some time in the aquarium petting sting rays and talking to some staff. But when she woke up, the fish were probably her favorite part. She loved pointing to them and watching them swim by. She seemed fascinated by the little fish more so over the larger ones. She loved the penguins too!

I'm sure we'll be back this year, and we're thinking of investing in a membership if not this year, next year for sure! If you haven't been to the zoo in a while, what are you waiting for? Go! And go early! And have fun!
here's the new hair color for those of you wondering...

food glorious food
Cori has been having more and more "people" food these days. Some of the more popular items are crab, bananas, cheese and strawberries. Some of the not so popular are broccoli and raspberries. Mom and Dad were a bit nervous about giving things other than food from a jar since she only has 2 teeth, but Cori had no issues and led the way without a problem. Figures! And if you click on the picture below (to zoom in), you might be able to see those teeth on the bottom.

We're also "enjoying" the beginning of some fun toddler stages like whining, limit testing, and self control with hitting. This stage is a lot of fun but it's a lot of work too. Funny how quickly the switch gets flipped from happy to cranky.

Sometimes I miss the simplicity of a newborn. But then again I don't miss the uncertainty that comes with that stage. And I guess I'm a little more rested than I was a year ago at this time. (::knocking on wood as I know I've just set myself up for a 3 hr -middle of the night -out of the blue- fun session::)

June
Finally had a moment to make an entry - can you believe it's June already? We've been outside a lot enjoying the weather and flowers and toys. And ice-cream!! Although last night we found out that Dairy Queen right before bed isn't the best idea for Cori. Sugar rush!
We've also been inside too routing for the Pens! Let's go Pens!
Speaking of inside, this week we had a fairly big issue with our downstairs bathroom. Dave stepped into the shower and the plastic base cracked - a big, long crack. The shower is not even 3 years old. I looked online to check the manufacturer's warranty and happened to notice a bunch of recent entries noting the same issues of cracking and leaking. Great.....
The manufacturer was nice enough to say if we could come up with the receipt they would send us a new base and surround walls. (Walls because we're going to have to rip out the shower surround walls to get the base out. Fun times ahead.) And if you know me, you know I'm not big on keeping receipts. Luckily I called Lowes who searched my entire transaction history for 2006 and found the purchase. They are ordering me a receipt so I can send it in with the warranty. We're probably not going to be able to replace the shower base until after vacation.
In the meantime, the manufacturer said we can put duct tape over the cracks and still use the shower. So we have a really classy shower look going on - ultra white plastic with big spots of gray duct tape.
The lesson is two-fold:
(1) Save your receipts! All of them - just go out and buy a big tote and throw them in there.
(2) Duct tape solves everything.
PS - Cori is up to almost 23 lbs, 30 inches, and 2 teeth!

birthday party wrap-up
Cori did really well with so many guests and had a lot of fun! She seems to loves balloons - typical kid! And we were surprised to find out that Cori is fairly dainty with her food - no cake face here! This is about as messy as it got. I was a little sad; do I have a real girly girl on my hands??
We opened presents later at home after Cori had napped again (and we had cleaned up). It was like Christmas times 10 - what a lot of loot this girl received! Thank you to our family & friends who helped make the day so special for our little girl! Here's some pictures of her cake too (a friend is a baker at a restaurant downtown). The cake tasted as amazing as it looked!

1 year old
It was 52 weeks ago today that my water broke, I had a short labor and great epidural, and then our beautiful girl was born at 10:02 AM on May 24th 2008. Tomorrow our little baby turns one and I can honestly say this has been the best year of my life.
Part of the time it feels like the year flew by -Cori being this tiny little baby seems like a life time ago. Pumping feeling like it happened eons ago (I can really say I don't miss that). The baby that hated "tummy time" now spends a ton of time on her belly either crawling or pumping her arms & legs in excitement.
Yet some aspects of the year I can recall quite easily, like the first 3 months spent sleeping nights in the living room chair holding Cori. Recalling the anguish and fear of 3 days spent in Children's Hospital the first week still makes me shiver. The post-partum depression, various "first" milestones, and sleep frustrations are colored yarns of joy and anxiety that began the weave of our parenthood blanket.
Tomorrow we're having a huge party to celebrate - we survived the first year and so did Corinne! Some how even without an instruction manual, we all made it realively unscathed. We owe a multitude of gratitude to family and friends who gave us advise, help, and lots of support. THANK YOU!
Happy 1st Birthday Corinne Elise - we love you so much!!

Lots of Pictures
It's been 10 days since I last updated - sorry! Lots going on - planning a big 1st birthday bash, landscaping & gardening a plenty, and talking about moving next year (so we've been checking out some plans & lots). Yikes!
One thing I don't have a picture of is Cori's first tooth! On mother's day I felt something sharp graze my finger when I put some banana on Cori's gums. Surprise, surprise -it was a tooth that had broken through the gum-line!
I apologize in advance for the grainy pics - Blackberry's may be useful for surfing the inter-web, but they take lousey pictures!
Here's Cori sampling her first soft pretzel at Hofbrauhaus. She clearly enjoyed it.
A few weeks ago I went out with some friends and decided to spend my entire $20 on $5 martinis... - oy vey! But it did feel good just to be silly for a while.

First taste of summer - ice-cream!!

Cori got her first car for her birthday. As you can see, it is a huge hit!

Cori's hair is getting really long in front - this morning I decided to put it in a bow like Cindy-Loo-Who
